r2 Reporting Hi All... I wanted to let everyone know that Paul and Steve and I have been working with a number of members who are confused and, in some cases, concerned over the results reports on the r2sports.com tournament site for Portland. Let me explain what has happened in the event you are asked. Steve Cohen took the initiative during the registration for Portland, to set up a test site with r2 sports. So you'll know, r2 is now the most used tournament management software on the market. They not only provide racquetball tournament management, but every other sport you can think of. Many of our players already are aware of r2 because they have used it to enter local and national tournaments for the past two years. So, Steve got the entries from Paul and set up a test site for Portland. The reason for doing this was to get all the information for a typical NMRA round robin tournament into the software program so any problems would be detected during the Portland tournament. At no time was the r2 system actually being used to manage the tournament in Portland. Some of our members found the website (because they have used the program before) and thought that we were offering all of the features of r2 for Portland. We addressed those issues as they were raised by members. After an NMRA tournament, we have a requirement to provide the results back to the USAR for ranking purposes. In the past, the information provided to the USAR only included the medal winning results. We realized, as a result of using r2, this was a problem since all of our matches would have to be reported as results since NMRA is round robin ONLY. So, Steve and I began taking all of match information from the NMRA Software and putting it into the r2 program so we would be able to automatically send the results to the USAR and they would be able, for the first time, to give all of our players proper credit in the ranking system. As you can imagine, this project is taking some time to complete and, it is also uncovering changes in the r2 system that have to be made (and are being fixed as we report them) to accurately manage an NMRA Tournament. In the mean time, although Steve had labeled the r2 Portland site as a TEST Site, some of our members continue to ask about their results. Steve, Paul and I have been providing answers to the membership as they come up. It is time consuming, but necessary. And, we'll reap the benefit when we use the r2 system as the full management system in Overland Park. The way that some of our members were locating the r2 site was though a feature of r2. It gives us the ability, with one click of the mouse, to send an email to every player entered in the tournament giving them the link to r2 to review their results. I had tested this system and the result was an email being sent, with a link to the site, to every register player at Portland. Also, during the tournament, very r'ball player with access to a computer, will be able to check the daily action (results, who is entered, etc) of the tournament. The good news in all of this confusion is the fact that many of our members are using their computers and r2 to enter and track tournaments. This is a real plus for us for future tournaments. I know this is a long email, but I thought it was important for all of you to know exactly what had and is happening regarding the confusion over results. We have already registered and sanctioned the Overland Park Tournament. Every entry (online or mail in) will be managed by r2. During the tournament, r2 will keep track of our matches, courts, players, and we will be recording, real time, the results of every match as they are played (as long as we get the score cards!!!). The r2 link will be on both the NMRA web sites, it will also be linked to the Athletic Club of Overland Park site, and the KS State Site. We'll even have it linked on a custom web site, for our tournament, being set up by the Marriott for our event. It will include all of the tournament information and will allow folks to register for their hotel room online with the special NMRA rate. Steve, Jim Elliott (co-TD), Mike Wedel (ACOP), and me will have Tournament Director access to the r2 for Overland Park. So, thats' it. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Steve. Tom Curran |

Jim Emerson has created an NMRA Family Web Site on MyFamily.com called National Masters Racquetball Association where members can post pictures, participate in a real-time chat with other members, and send and receive messages from other members. This site has been established for NMRA members. It is PRIVATE in that only those who are invited as members can participate, SAFE since most of the members are known to other members, and FUN because you can stay in touch with other members of the NMRA. Membership is by invitation only. Those interested in joining should email Jim at racquetballjim@comcast.net. There is no cost, and very little required personal information needed when registering. Jim is in the process of building an email database that when finished will provide all of us with a means to interact with any or all on-line members. |
